Job Summary

Alto Pharmacy is seeking a dynamic and visionary Vice President of Engineering to lead and drive the growth of our engineering teams. Reporting directly to the Chief Technology Officer (CTO), the Vice President of Engineering will oversee multiple teams across the organization and play a pivotal role in shaping the technical direction of Alto Pharmacy. This leadership role requires a proven track record in building and scaling engineering teams, ideally in fast-paced, startup environments.

  • Lead and mentor Alto Pharmacy’s engineering teams, fostering a culture of continuous learning, innovation, and development.

  • Own the development and execution of Alto’s technical roadmap, aligning engineering efforts with business goals and strategic priorities.

  • Establish and uphold best practices for software development, ensuring high standards for coding, testing, and deployment.

  • Oversee the design, development, and deployment of scalable, high-performance micro-services and APIs to enhance Alto’s pharmacy services.

  • Collaborate cross-functionally with product management, design, and other departments to develop and deliver customer-centric solutions.

  • Champion a culture of innovation, accountability, and ownership, empowering teams to take initiative and deliver impactful results.

  • Stay ahead of emerging technologies and industry trends to identify opportunities for innovation, ensuring Alto remains a leader in the pharmaceutical tech space.

A Bit About You

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.

  • 10+ years of experience in software engineering, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.

  • Proven experience building and scaling engineering teams in startup environments.

  • Strong technical background with expertise in micro-services architecture and modern programming languages and frameworks (e.g., Ruby, Go, Python, React, React Native).

  • Experience with cloud technologies (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP) and DevOps practices.

  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to effectively collaborate and influence cross-functional teams.

  • Results-driven mindset with a track record of delivering high-quality software products on time and within budget.

  • Passion for technology and a commitment to continuous learning and improvement.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with Scaling Startups: Preference will be given to candidates who have a demonstrated track record of successfully scaling engineering teams and infrastructure in fast-paced startup environments. Experience navigating the challenges and opportunities inherent in rapid growth will be highly valued.

  • Hands-On Technical Expertise: Candidates with hands-on technical expertise in building and deploying micro-services architectures, particularly using modern programming languages and frameworks such as Ruby, Go, Python, React, and React Native, will be preferred. The ability to dive deep into technical challenges and provide strategic guidance will set candidates apart.

  • Proven Leadership in Agile Environments: We are looking for candidates with a strong understanding of Agile methodologies and experience leading engineering teams in Agile environments. Preference will be given to candidates who have a demonstrated ability to foster a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement within their teams.

  • Track Record of People Development: Candidates with a proven track record of developing and mentoring engineering talent will be preferred. Experience in coaching team members to reach their full potential, fostering a culture of learning and development, and promoting diversity and inclusion within engineering teams will be highly valued.

  • Read English, comprehend, and follow simple oral and written instructions.   • Perceiving the nature of sounds at normal speaking levels with or without correction, and having the ability to receive detailed information through oral communication, and making fine discriminations in sound.

  • Frequent repeating motions required to operate a computer that may include the wrists, hands and/or fingers.

  • Sedentary work: Sitting most of the time, exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Walking and standing are required only occasionally.

Salary and Benefits

Salary Range: $256,000 - $320,000

Commission Eligible: No

Equity Eligible: Yes

Travel: Yes - Required up to 25% of the time

Location Requirement: Employment at Alto is limited to individuals residing in the following states: Arizona, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Florida, Kansas, Maryland, Missouri, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Oregon, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Washington (WA), and Wisconsin.

Employment Authorization Requirement: Applicants must be authorized to work for any employer in the U.S. At this time, Alto is unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment Visa.
