Description

Blacktop Hoop is the world’s first competitive VR streetball game. Chain together flashy dribble tricks, shots, and high-flying dunks to finish off opponents in epic games of 1-on-1 arcade basketball. As a Technical Artist you will focus on collaborating with artists, design, and engineering to develop optimized pipelines and visuals for world-class VR experiences.

You are a mid-level Technical Artist looking to build the next generation of competitive virtual reality games. You have multiple years of experience with the Unity Editor and are passionate about finding efficiencies, exploring new technologies, implementing new tools, and identifying solutions for major technical challenges for VR mediums.

Examples of things you could work on:

  • Collaborating with art team and dev team to establish workflows and pipelines for implementing cosmetics in-game
  • Working with artist and designers on developing high-quality VR avatar customization system
  • Optimizing environment scenes and characters to be performant for dedicated platforms (Quest, Playstation VR 2, PC, etc.)
  • Implementation and adjustments of in-game VFX, lighting, and shaders

Responsibilities

  • Partner closely with the art, engineering, and design teams to define and develop content.
  • Design, manage and maintain the pipeline from engineers to artists and designers through to deployment.
  • Optimize assets and content creation workflows through improved tooling.
  • Instructing artists and designers on asset creation, modeling, and texturing best practices.
  • Thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
  • Develop broad technical expertise to assist in a wide variety of technical and artistic tasks.
  • Quickly solve issues and unify vision with cross-functional peers.
Requirements
  • 3+ years of Unity experience
  • 3+ years of experience in game/VR development as a Technical Artist.
  • Experience with profiling and optimization techniques.
  • Experience working with shaders.
  • Experience creating 3D pipeline tools including asset management, performance testing, and asset/pipeline validation.
  • Experience collaborating on multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Experience communicating across team members including engineers and artists with demonstrated techniques for improving communication.
  • Experience making tools and automation for one or more packages like Maya, Blender, Houdini, Substance Painter, Substance Designer, ZBrush, Knald, Marmoset, Photoshop, etc.
  • Experience shipping products with stringent runtime performance constraints, such as complex mobile or 3D applications or games.

Bonus Points

  • Knowledge of low level real-time graphics pipeline concepts.
  • Prototype, profile, and optimize shaders.
  • Experience with Unity.
  • Virtual reality experience (Oculus, Rift, Vive, PSVR, etc.).
  • Knowledge of emerging technologies.
  • Experience building applications for mobile platforms.
