Job Summary

The OR Technician participates as a member of the surgical team with limited direct patient care under the direct supervision and guidance of the Registered Nurse.

The individual must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development of the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patients´ status.

Responsibilties

• Demonstrates scrubbing responsibilities in compliance with departmental policies and procedures and AORN recommended standards and practices.
• Handles instruments, supplies, and equipment essential to surgical procedure.
• Maintains the sterile field.
• Displays understanding of the surgical procedure being performed and anticipates the needs of the surgeon.
• Cleans and prepares instruments for disinfection and terminal sterilization.
• Demonstrates and maintains competencies in the use of instrumentation, equipment and other technology in the various specialty services.
• Handles specimens per departmental & organizational policies and procedures.
• Assists other team members with room turnover and terminal cleaning.
• Assists in the preparation of the procedure room for the next patient.
• Maintains a cooperative relationship with the health care team by communicating information; responding to requests; building rapport; participating in team problem-solving methods.
• Participates in the collection and application of process improvement initiatives.
• Maintains accountability and responsibility for patient care outcomes.
• Completes required e-learning activities and attends hospital & departmental sponsored career days.
• Assists in the training and development of new staff members to the scrub role.
• Shift timings: 7am to 7:30pm

Requirements for OR Tech

• Certifications: BLS, BLS Instructor
• Exams: Annual CORE, Annual Core II (Allied), Specialty Checklist, Specialty Exam
• Licenses: CST, CST Verification, NCCT, NCCT Verification
• Medical Records: COVID-19 Medical Exemption, COVID-19 Prescreening, COVID-19 Vaccine, Drug Screen, Fit Test, Fit Test - 3M 1860 N95, Flu Vaccine, Flu Vaccine
