DirectShifts is looking for a Perfusionist who'd be responsible for a wide range of mechanical life support systems. This position is based in the Cardiac Services Department and provides clinical service throughout the department.
Responsibilities:
- Understands and adheres to the facilities' Performance Standards, Policies and Behaviors
- Performs Intraoperative Autotransfusion during procedures when significant amounts of blood loss are expected; independently operates the autotransfusion device, ensuring a safe blood product
- Provides technical management of the Intra-Aortic Balloon Pump (IABP) during invasive placement in the Operating Room, I.C.U., or Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory
- Ensures optimal performance of Ventricular Assist Devices (VADs)
- Performs Hemofiltration; provides for excess intravascular and interstitial fluid removal from patients undergoing cardiac surgery
- Assembles, primes, re-circulates, and tests the extracorporeal circuit prior to initiation of heart-lung bypass
- In consultation with the surgeon, modifies extracorporeal circuit and/or incorporates the use of special equipment to accommodate operative procedure to be performed
- Monitors and observes the operation of the heart-lung machine and makes adjustments as required based on patient’s physiologic parameters
- Obtains and runs blood samples during cardiac procedures
- Responsible for the administration of medications, blood components, and anesthetic agents via the extracorporeal circuit
- Performs advanced blood therapies including PRP, Platelet Gel, hemofiltration, and autotransfusion
- Maintains adequate record keeping during surgical procedures
- Disassembles and cleans the perfusion equipment following termination of the procedure
- Participates in service-line “on-call” responsibilities.
- Assists in instructing advanced practice providers and nursing staff with understanding cardiopulmonary bypass and IABP
- Performs all other related duties as assigned
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree and graduate of Perfusion program
- Three (3) years of post-training clinical experience providing CPB for adult cardiac surgical procedures including coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG), valve replacements, and aortic aneurysm repairs
- Certified Clinical Perfusionist (CCP) as recognized by the American Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion (ABCP)
- CPR certification or ability to obtain within three (3) months of hire
