As a Medical-Surgical Nurse, you play a vital role in the healthcare team, providing specialized nursing care to adult patients across various medical conditions and surgical procedures. This dynamic and multifaceted role requires a strong foundation in medical knowledge, critical thinking skills, and the ability to deliver compassionate and evidence-based care. You will work in hospitals, surgical centers, and other healthcare facilities, collaborating with physicians, specialists, and other healthcare professionals to ensure the well-being of patients.
Responsibilities:
Patient Assessment: Conduct thorough physical assessments, review medical histories, and perform ongoing monitoring to identify changes in patients' conditions. Recognize signs of complications and communicate effectively with the healthcare team.
Medication Administration: Administer medications and treatments, ensuring accurate dosing and monitoring for any adverse reactions. Educate patients about their medications and potential side effects.
Wound Care: Expertly provide wound care management for post-operative patients and those with chronic wounds, ensuring proper dressing changes and infection prevention.
Surgical Support: Assist in pre-operative preparation, intra-operative care, and post-operative recovery, monitoring patients closely for any signs of complications.
Patient Education: Educate patients and their families about their conditions, treatment plans, and self-care strategies for a safe and smooth transition from the hospital to home.
Pain Management: Implement pain management strategies and collaborate with the healthcare team to find the most effective ways to control patients' pain.
Medical Procedures: Assist in various medical procedures, including catheterization, IV placement, and other treatments, ensuring patient comfort and safety.
Documentation: Maintain accurate and detailed patient records, documenting assessments, interventions, and outcomes in the electronic health record system.
Requirements:
- Bachelor of Science with a major in nursing preferred. Associate degree in nursing is considered only with relevant experience and/or active matriculation in a BSN Program if approved by Chief Nursing Officer or designee
- Relevant clinical competence in area of nursing practice assigned; new graduates must possess current knowledge of the nursing process and its application
- Licensed as a registered nurse with current registration in New York State
- Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) from AHA
