Founded in 1792, but with roots dating back to 1685 when Shawnee Indians inhabited the area, Winchester sits at the heart of Clark County, just 20 miles east of Lexington. A dynamic cultural center, the town is home to the Leeds Theatre for performing arts, the Winchester Art Guild Gallery, the Winchester Opera House and the Bluegrass Heritage Museum. Clark County also hosts several popular festivals, including the Annual Daniel Boone Festival, Beer Cheese Festival and Scarecrow Festival. And the Clark County Fair draws crowds each summer for livestock shows and rodeos, live entertainment and more.

Year-round recreational activities can be found through the Winchester Clark County Parks and Recreation Department and the YMCA. And Natural Bridge State Resort Park lies nearby with a 54-acre lake in Daniel Boone National Forest, which offers fishing, boating, playgrounds, cottages and lodges among its beautiful scenery.
