Homeflow is a market-leading, fast-growing, profitable, software-as-a-service (SaaS) business in the property market, and we’re looking to grow significantly over the next two to three years. We think we’re a lovely team of people with a fantastic company culture that we want to retain as we grow - ambitious, hard-working and collaborative yet respectful of work-life balance. You can expect to feel welcomed and supported by some truly talented people, in a company that is constantly innovating.

We are looking for a Financial Controller 💷, based in the UK, to support the growth of the team as the company matures. You will be responsible for a variety of tasks (as listed below, not exhaustive) and generally support the Managing Director.

You will also be responsible for the day to day management of a part-time Bookkeeper who is based remotely.

Although you will be required to roll your sleeves up and get stuck into all levels of the finance process, over time this role is expected to develop into a role with a greater emphasis on reporting and analysis than day to day data management. This is a great opportunity for the right person to take on a challenging and broad role. Homeflow is a fully remote company but some travel may be required for team meetings (Brighton / SE England) and visits to work in person with your manager.

Typical job tasks include 🚀

  • Weekly, monthly and quarterly reporting against budget and forecast including:
  • Preparation of weekly operating report to cover finance and key operational departments
  • Preparation of monthly Management Accounts (including balance sheet reconciliations) and Monthly Operating Control reports within 5-7 working days of month end
  • Monthly Budget vs Actual variance reporting
  • Suggest improvements in and implement a financial controls structure including:
  • Formal roll out of budgets to budget holders
  • Sign off authorities to be established and limits set
  • A more robust sign off process for purchase ledger invoices
  • Day to day management of sales & purchases, assisted by the Accounts Assistant, including data entry, credit control and reconciliations where required.
  • Overall responsibility for reconciliations between the invoicing system (bespoke in house, migrating to a subscription management system in 2024) and the finance system (Xero)
  • Process management and development (assisting the Managing Director) to ensure finance-related processes are quicker, slicker and more accurate.

Any other ad hoc reporting as discussed with the Managing Director.

We’re looking for someone who has 🌟

  • Formal accounting qualification preferred (CIMA/ACA/ACCA)
  • 5+ years of recent experience working within a finance department of an SME with SAAS products.
  • Advanced MS Excel / Google Sheets experience including formulae and pivot tables
  • Management experience preferred but not essential
  • Experience of Xero (preferred)
  • Dedicated, motivated individual who is driven by the need to improve (themselves, processes, timetables etc..)
  • A strong work ethic, but also the ability to enjoy work too. We are a young, enthusiastic company and want to recruit individuals who have the same outlook to work and life in general.
  • Ideal location is within the SE of England to allow for face-to-face meetings with the Managing Director when required.

People who thrive in this role at Homeflow are attentive to details, calm, proactive, self-sufficient and friendly. They are motivated and ready to get stuck in! They also embody our company values of being driven, open, polished and pioneering.

Can’t tick every box? That’s fine - it’s more important to us to find the right person to join the team. We welcome applications from people who may not meet the brief completely or who may have a slightly different background, including those who bring extra skills or experience to the table. The salary ranges reflect the skills we think we will find but we are flexible within reason and we are open to discussing flexible/part time working arrangements. If that sounds like you, we’d love to learn more about you and what you think you can bring to this role.
