About Noya:

Noya is reversing climate change by removing CO2 from the atmosphere. We’re a scrappy team of engineers, scientists, and operators taking on the biggest problem anybody could be working on. We’ve developed a process that leverages abundant materials to remove CO2 directly from the air with dramatically lower capital and operating expenses than other approaches.

About the Role:

As a Mechanical Engineer at Noya you will be critical to helping us scale our process to remove enough CO2 to make a serious dent in humanity’s carbon footprint. You will be responsible for designing, manufacturing, testing, and commissioning cutting-edge CO2 capture machines and components for current and future CO2 capture programs. You will take these ideas from prototype all the way through to implementation. We are looking for a self-motivated individual with the experience and drive to make Noya’s mission to reverse climate change a reality.

Responsibilities:

  • Design mechanical components for an industrial-scale carbon capture process

  • Characterize and design CO2 capture equipment by building prototypes, running simulations, and leveraging off-the-shelf components

  • Perform mechanical and failure mode analyses and design test methods to characterize and drive down risks on new CO2 capture technology

  • Spend time on the laboratories, shop floor, and remote CO2 capture facilities when technology is being installed and tested - we all get our hands dirty at Noya!

  • Implement new technologies and processes in CO2 capture facilities

  • Lead interdisciplinary teams through root cause analysis to resolve unexpected outcomes during development, implementation, or production

  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to ensure hardware integrates with electrical, chemical, and controls subsystems

Required Experience:

  • 5+ years of mechanical engineering experience

  • Experience guiding industrial equipment and components from prototype through production

  • Experience building prototypes, iterating rapidly, and advancing design concepts to production

  • Ninja-level CAD skills; Solidworks preferred

  • Strong interpersonal and collaborative skills, enthusiasm for prototyping and getting your hands dirty, and a desire to optimize CO2 capture machines

  • Experience working with external vendors to move parts to production

Bonus Experience:

  • Expertise in computational methods like Finite Element Analysis and Computational Fluid Dynamics

  • Experience with high-temperature and pressure systems

  • Experience scaling with volume production of industrial equipment

  • Experience with large scale industrial process systems (ie. P&IDs, compressors, pumps, piping)

  • Experience with with sealing mechanisms and polymeric seal development and testing

  • Strong oral and written communication skills

General Information:

  • Job title: Mechanical Engineer

  • Team: Mechanical Engineering

  • Location: Oakland, CA

  • Compensation: $115,000-$170,000

Benefits You Can Expect:

  • Blue Shield and Kaiser medical plans, plus 100% employer-sponsored dental, vision, life and LTD coverage
