At Odys Aviation, we’re building advanced vertical takeoff and landing aircraft for major airlines. This will cut travel time in half on the world’s busiest routes by using city helipads and local airports. More than 40% of all flights are less than 1,000 miles - let’s skip the airport and make these routes sustainable. Check out our intro video and in Techcrunch.
We’re a team of expert engineers from deep tech and aerospace working to remove the hassles of flying and reduce CO2 emissions for travelers globally. Previously, our team has built and flown custom drones. We’ve brought multiple automotive platforms into production. We’ve electrified transportation vehicles that magnetically levitate, that roll, that fly. Together, we’ve been learning, developing, building, testing, and preparing for this challenge our entire lives.
We are hiring for several positions within the Engineering department and this is an exciting and challenging opportunity to join a world-class team of aviation, electrification and transportation enthusiast.
The Navigation and Vision-based Image Processing Intern will play a key role in the development of enhanced navigation systems for unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) and future passenger aircraft. This internship focuses on leveraging various visual sensor information to enable precise navigation over longer distances without relying solely on GPS. The intern will be responsible for contributing to a proof of concept project aimed at advancing navigation technology in aviation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop algorithms and models for navigation using vision-based image processing techniques.
  • Conduct research on AI, machine learning, video processing, and data science methodologies relevant to the project.
  • Collaborate with the team to integrate developed models into the existing hardware platform.
  • Test and evaluate the performance of the navigation system in simulated and real-world environments.
  • Document findings, methodologies, and results for future reference and knowledge sharing.

Requirements:

  • Currently pursuing a Master's degree in a relevant field such as Aerospace Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Proficiency in AI, machine learning, video processing, and data science techniques.
  • Experience with model development and implementation.
  • Strong programming skills, particularly in languages such as Python, C/C++, or MATLAB.
  • Knowledge of visual sensor technologies and their application in navigation systems.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work independently.
  • Effective communication skills and ability to collaborate in a team environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous experience in navigation systems development or related aerospace projects.
  • Familiarity with UAV/UAS technologies and regulations.
  • Experience with hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) testing and simulation.
  • Knowledge of computer vision algorithms and libraries (e.g. OpenCV).
  • Familiarity with aviation standards and protocols.
