Director, Product Operations

About The Role

Product Operations at Ramp sits at the intersection of product and business strategy, customer delivery, and operational execution. Product operators are responsible for delivering the customer and analytical insights that shape our product evolution, driving fully enabled and fully evaluated product releases, and leading operational processes that both “keep the lights on” and help identify improvements in how Ramp executes on its mission to save businesses their most valuable resources - time and money.

As Director of Product Operations for Spend Management and the Ramp Platform, you will lead, and build, a team of product operators to drive massive success for Ramp’s core product suite. Our Spend Management team owns the admin controls, key workflows, employee experience, travel experience, and underlying payment transaction platforms - it is the product responsible for driving the largest part of Ramp’s revenue and growth today. You will guide your team to develop and continuously evolve our ongoing customer listening, product enablement, product release, incident response and operational monitoring processes, and deliver one-time impactful projects as needs are identified. You’ll work both upstream with product managers, engineers, and data scientists to represent the voice of the customer and shape product decisions, as well as downstream with customer-facing teams and key operational partners and vendors to ensure Ramp is equipped to scale rapidly. Additionally, you will be a core part of pushing forward the mission, values, tooling, processes and culture of Product Operations as we continue to invest in this team to enable Ramp to scale.

What You’ll Do

  • Establish and refine the core Spend Management Product Operations team’s mission, rituals, and goals, combining elements from traditional Product Operations, Business Operations, and Strategy & Ops teams (Ramp only has Product Ops today!)
  • Invest in building high-leverage product analytics tracking and customer listening methods (including through AI) to surface opportunities for improving the customer experience in your product group
  • Establish and measure customer and business performance metrics and reviews alongside the Product and Commercial Managers you interface with, and drive accountability to results during high-impact launches and/or financially impactful products
  • Drive the performance of some of Ramp’s key operational vendors and partners by establishing joint goals, monitoring and flagging improvement opportunities, and identifying when changes might need to be made
  • Identify opportunities to automate, optimize, and refine processes to help Ramp scale operationally as we continue to expand the scope of our products and the size of our customer base
  • Earn the trust of key internal commercial and operational partners including sales, customer success, account management, customer support, and risk operations, and ensure their needs are reflected in product and process roadmaps
  • Coach and develop direct reports and other ProductOps team members to increase their influence and impact across their engineering/product, customer-facing, and leadership partners

What You’ll Need

  • Minimum 8 years experience in Product Management, Product Operations, Management Consulting, Business Operations and/or Strategy & Ops roles (ideally a mix of these and more!), with at least 4 years in fast-growth startup environments
  • Minimum 4 years experience managing individuals and/or managers in dynamic, fast-paced environments
  • Highly strategic thinker with lots of reps setting ambitious and well-defined team goals (using OKRs, SMART goals, etc) and then delivering on them successfully
  • Exposure to product environments that include real-world operations such as 24/7 customer support, global supply chains, or highly integrated third-party operating partners
  • Analytically rigorous and deeply curious about the data of the companies you’ve worked at, in ways that have driven actionable insights and product roadmap updates
  • High level of financial literacy - able to understand the P&L drivers of a given product and make decisions that create win-wins for customers and Ramp’s bottom line
  • Strong cross-functional background partnering with support, sales, product, engineering, design and operations teams - you can see a problem from all sides and are not afraid to present a compelling case for change to senior leadership
  • Deep experience hiring, coaching, growing and developing talent
  • Ability to execute in ambiguous, undefined spaces
  • Strong curiosity, and the investigative and critical thinking skills needed to get to the root cause of your questions

Nice to Haves

  • Direct operations or general management experience (leading an operating team or a P&L)
  • Data analytics experience (SQL, Looker Studio, Python)

Compensation

  • The annual salary/OTE range for the target level for this role is $229,500-$270,000 + target equity + benefits (including medical, dental, vision, and 401(k)
