About The Role

As one of Ramp's first tax hires, you will have the unique opportunity to be part of Ramp's growth trajectory by ensuring that quality tax operations are created to drive business operations. As a Tax Manager reporting to the Senior Controller, you will work closely with other finance team members. You will lead our initiatives to build a successful tax function within the accounting team. You will also participate in implementing processes and controls to enhance financial reporting and compliance. The ideal candidate aspires to grow with Ramp and is willing to support all business areas whenever needed.

What you'll do

  • Manage the tax compliance and reporting process, including documenting and implementing the systems, controls, and improvements needed to build in-house functions
  • Oversee the preparation of all US (federal, state, and local) filings in partnership with our tax advisors while ensuring adherence to deadlines, accuracy, and compliance with state regulations
  • Manage registration and filing processes for all taxes, including international, sales, withholding, and franchise taxes
  • Collaborate with Finance, Accounting, Legal, and other key stakeholders to identify and ensure appropriate tax reporting and risk management, including preparation/review of proper disclosures as required under US GAAP for quarterly and annual financial statements
  • Research technical tax matters, positions, policies, and procedures and document conclusions, including tax positions related to nonrecurring company transactions
  • Prepare tax calculations and models as assigned to assist in various tax planning and reporting needs. As necessary, assist with non-income tax-related projects and queries, including certain payroll and payroll-related tax positions and accruals, in coordination with the responsible teams
  • Manage internal and external stakeholders as necessary, communicate and educate on tax matters affecting the company promptly and assertively
  • Support other projects and processes as needed

What you'll need

  • A minimum of 6 years of experience, with at least 3 years of corporate tax experience with combined experience in Big 4 public accounting and industry managing tax provision and federal and state tax compliance
  • BS Degree in Accounting or related field (Master’s of Taxation a plus); CPA certification is strongly preferred
  • Strong knowledge of state tax laws and regulations, with the ability to research and interpret complex tax issues
  • Experience working in high-growth or early-stage startups
