About Rippling
Rippling gives businesses one place to run HR, IT, and Finance. It brings together all of the workforce systems that are normally scattered across a company, like payroll, expenses, benefits, and computers. For the first time ever, you can manage and automate every part of the employee lifecycle in a single system.
Take onboarding, for example. With Rippling, you can hire a new employee anywhere in the world and set up their payroll, corporate card, computer, benefits, and even third-party apps like Slack and Microsoft 365—all within 90 seconds.
Based in San Francisco, CA, Rippling has raised $1.2B from the world’s top investors—including Kleiner Perkins, Founders Fund, Sequoia, Greenoaks, and Bedrock—and was named one of America's best startup employers by Forbes.

About the role

As Rippling’s Chief Compliance Officer, you will build, mature, and manage the compliance team and our compliance programs to drive proactive risk mitigation at scale and foster a culture of ethics and compliance. You will also serve on Rippling’s Insurance and Regulatory Committee, which exercises oversight over the regulated areas of our business, including insurance, professional employer organization (PEO) services, and payments (more information here). You will work closely with legal, business, risk management, operations, finance, product development, people and technology teams to develop, implement, and embed right-sized compliance programs relating to insurance, PEO, payments, and privacy.

You are a self-starter who takes pride in working cross-functionally to help colleagues navigate complex compliance regimes. You are passionate about building dynamic, risk-based, and measurable compliance programs that stay abreast of new laws, regulations, and best practices. The ideal candidate takes ownership over initiatives, has a strong work ethic, demonstrates excellent analytical and communication skills, and has a hunger for creative, outside-the-box solutions.

  • Manage compliance oversight and provide day-to-day compliance support to all product, marketing, and operational groups, including working cross-functionally to gain a deeper understanding of other teams' processes and the impact of policy on their objectives.

  • Represent the Company in regulatory inquiries and examinations, as well as internal and external audits, and similar reviews.

  • Lead and manage effective regulatory licensing programs, complaint management programs, and ethics and whistleblower programs.

  • Partner with legal, risk, and audit functions to identify potential areas of compliance vulnerability and risk and ensure that corrective action plans are developed and implemented when compliance issues are revealed by investigations, audits, internal risk assessments and other mechanisms.

  • Research, communicate, and test compliance requirements for our products or services.

  • Implement an effective compliance risk assessment program to assess the adequacy and effectiveness of compliance controls.

  • Research, communicate, and ensure effective implementation of law and regulatory changes.

What you will need
  • 8+ years of experience in law and/or compliance at a technology company

  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience with financial services (and consumer protection, insurance and/or privacy laws and regulations would be a plus)

  • Entrepreneurial mindset (flexible, self-starting and hard-working) in generating new and innovative solutions to establish and embed an effective compliance program

  • Excellent communicator, with ability to break down complex requirements into easy-to-understand and practical systems

  • Demonstrated solution-oriented business and compliance judgment

  • Skilled and experienced with responding to regulatory inquiries & audits; in drafting, reviewing, implementing, and managing compliance policies and procedures; and building technical processes to meet compliance-related requirements

  • Stickler for operational excellence

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

  • Sense of humor

  • J.D. and/or regulatory compliance experience preferred
