About Rippling
Rippling is the first way for businesses to manage all of their HR & IT—payroll, benefits, computers, apps, and more—in one unified workforce platform.
By connecting every business system to one source of truth for employee data, businesses can automate all of the manual work they normally need to do to make employee changes. Take onboarding, for example. With Rippling, you can just click a button and set up a new employees’ payroll, health insurance, work computer, and third-party apps—like Slack, Zoom, and Office 365—all within 90 seconds.
Based in San Francisco, CA, Rippling has raised $1.2B from the world’s top investors—including Kleiner Perkins, Founders Fund, Sequoia, Bedrock, and Greenoaks —and was named one of America’s best startup employers by Forbes (#12 out of 500).

We Are Engineering-First.

Today 50% of Rippling is engineers, product managers, and designers. For our first three years, engineers owned the product with only Parker (our CEO) as the product leader. Of course, we’ve grown a lot since then. But our culture remains engineering-led.  Want to create something from nothing? Our team has 50+ ex-founders who will teach you how. More interested in scaling a product? Learn from Rippling engineers who cut their teeth at Google, Facebook, and Amazon.

About The Role

We are hiring our first Technical Program Manager. The role will have two major responsibilities: firstly and most importantly, working with the infrastructure team to provide TPM support for cross-team initiatives that span the whole engineering org, and secondly, working with our CTO / SVP of Engineering to establish a broader Technical Program Management function at Rippling.

We’re looking for someone who is passionate about Program Delivery, with consistent and quantifiable success facilitating collaboration across many teams and a willingness to dive deep and push product leadership to deliver results.  You will be responsible for identifying dependencies and risks, resolving blockers, and leveraging best practices to ensure predictable and timely delivery of products that delight customers.

What You'll Do

  • Drive strategic cross-functional planning, prioritization and execution by closely partnering with product managers, engineering leads and stakeholders to develop program plans, including roadmap, dependency identifications and resourcing plan.

  • Establish and lead regular program level meetings with product & engineering leardership to ensure operational projects are driven to successful outcomes.

  • Prioritize and moderate program delivery in a way that empowers our R&D organization and ensures our ultimate goal of exceeding customer expectations is met.

  • Dive deep with product leads to translate business requirements into concrete engineering tasks.

  • Collaborate with other Product Team Leads and stakeholders beyond R&D as the point of contact in engagements or programs that have critical product deliverables.

  • Contribute to the definition, development and tracking of effective metrics and R&D improvements that drive improved Product Team operating performance and lead a regular review of program metrics and health.

  • Establish, document and drive adoption of program frameworks, tools and best practices.

  • Consider roadblockers and delays their own personal priority, escalate issues appropriately, and drive them to closure in a timely manner.

  • Be an agent of change as we establish and strengthen our Technical Program Management function across the company.

Qualifications

  • 6+ years experience in a technical Program Management, development or operations role with 3+ years managing technical operations or supporting an enterprise level platform.

  • Demonstrated excellence in the practice of technical program management, especially in establishing TPM processes from scratch and making an organization successful in leveraging TPMs.

  • Experience in standing up and running a cross-functional PMO, delivering technical projects under intense time pressure

  • Highly skilled in pragmatically identifying, tracking and reporting on cross team dependencies and collaboratively addressing them effectively with providing/receiving Business Units.

  • Demonstrated attention to detail and a hands-on disposition.

  • Excellent problem solving and troubleshooting skills.

  • Proven ability to handle multiple competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.

  • Outstanding ability to effectively communicate across all levels of the organization from engineers to executives.
