The Operations Manager for Consumables is a pivotal role responsible for driving technology transfer of consumables from the application lab through manufacturing, fulfillment, and to the end user. This role requires tight collaboration across technology development, applications, sales, and operations. This role is first of its kind at Volta Labs and as such will require hands-on engagement as an individual contributor at first, with strong cross-functional program management skills. In time, as the organization scales, the right individual in this role will be responsible for scaling their function appropriately to meet the goals of the company. Responsibilities

  • Oversee daily manufacturing and supply chain operations from raw materials to finished goods while ensuring compliance to regulatory and quality standards. Responsible for the interactive planning and management of a multi-faceted and cross-functional production team.
  • Responsible for production output, product quality, and on-time delivery of finished goods to customers.
  • Lead and coordinate the transfer of application kit designs from development to manufacturing.
  • Strong technical expertise in process design, equipment selection, and process optimization of reagent product manufacturing.
  • Support and maintain custom tools developed in house with system integrations and improvements to hardware and software.
  • Identify opportunities to streamline application design transfer processes, implement efficient scaling practices for new product introduction, and minimize time to market.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives in application validation processes, documentation and quality systems.
  • Support and drive completion of reagent BOMs, routings, work instructions, batch records, standard production costs, and packaging improvements.
  • Conduct root cause analysis during investigations for deviations and nonconformities.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree (BS) in biology, chemistry, or equivalent and 7+ years of relevant industry experience in life sciences or biotechnology. Or Master’s degree (MS) with 5+ years of relevant experience.
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
  • Experienced in working with genomics platforms and consumable products.
  • Proven expertise in process design, equipment selection, and optimization of reagent production lines.
  • Proven leader with strong interpersonal, communication, and influencing skills; excels at building and managing cross-functional teams.
This is a full-time position that requires a significant amount of in-person work and collaboration onsite at our Seaport Office in Boston, MA. If you are unable to relocate or commute to the Boston MA area, this role won't be a match.
